objectives
study three spaces in a larger space, defined by color, light and objects. 

create a systematic process of spatial experimentation. 

mediate between the following dichotomies with a relationship of "and:": 
one and many, public and private, black and white, open and closed. 

process sketches

diagramming and sketching different ways that two spaces can be divided into three

process painting

to discover ways that two can be made into three, use two 4” squares and images from two stencils provided, to “divide two into three”.

 

the grid of shapes created in this series, imposed on the natural grid of the space, inspired the final design and layout.
